The city of Victoria is like most big cities, congested and overcrowded. We were looking forward to getting out of the madness of the city and riding up the coast away from civilization. We drove about seventy miles of construction and extraordinary police presence before we realized, this was all we were going to get… one suburb full of people and retail opportunities after another – just like home. We stopped at a Starbucks, no less, to rethink our plan. Still, the scenery was beautiful, especially along the various waterways and inland passages.

We decided to backtrack and explore the uninhabited middle of the island closer to Victoria and make our way to the other side. We saw multiple signs to be cautious of wildlife. We were hopeful to see elk or maybe even a bear! Nothing. Probably because of the logging activity. They were clear cutting the forest.

The ride was beautiful but the road was rough.

We emerged at Port Renfrew and headed back to Victoria along the Pacific. The ride was very scenic but the road was terrible. It was full of undulations and harsh crevices. Not too many pictures because Cathy was too busy holding on! We returned to the inn around 5:30.

Lessons learned:
- Do your research and study Google Maps
- Trust the Zumo (it really is a dead end)
- Turn off the intercom when not communicating with each other (otherwise lots of f-bombs, groans, grunts, and ouches when a bug gets in your shirt and keeps biting)
