We had to make a choice – leave early and beat the heat or sleep in. We ended up splitting the difference and left Lakeview around 8:30. We finally saw the lake that we were supposed to be able to view from Lakeview about a half an hour on the road.
We stayed on Highway 395 for about 50 miles south of Alturas. We passed a nature preserve and saw a variety of birds, antelope and a pack of coyotes in a field. We finished this segment with a stretch in the small town of Likely.

From there, the ride meandered through high desert and farmlands.

We rode beside Lake Almanor again, this time along the opposite shore from the beginning of our trip.

We gassed up in Susanville and had lunch in Greenville. The down was bumping with some sort of festival. From there we traveled along the Feather River stopping to refresh our cooling vests a few times since the temperature was nearing 100 degrees.

From there it was a hot grind home. We arrived around 5:30 pm and celebrated Tom’s birthday with a delicious piece of carrot cake. Tomorrow we will wrap up the trip in our final post of the 2018 journey.
