Day 5 – Rest and Red Rocks

Not having to hit the road early, we set no alarms and pulled the curtains shut. We slept in until 9:00 am! Unheard of! We did laundry and hung our clothes to dry then set out across the street to find breakfast.

We decided to rent a car to explore the area and get out to Red Rocks for the concert. We headed west to Georgetown, a historic mining town that we’ve visited before. Tom wanted to check out the Georgetown Historic Energy Museum where he got his geek on with the docent, a fellow engineer.

In lieu of lunch, we opted for ice cream and then tried to walk it off touring the rest of the little town.

We jumped back in the car around 4:30 and drove to Morrison. Our intent was to tour the museum at Red Rocks and then have dinner at the restaurant there.

Unbeknownst to us, everything is closed until they open the gates an hour before the concert. That gave us an hour and a half to hang out in the car, take pictures of the area and plan our fifth anniversary getaway later this year.

Once the gates opened we headed for security. Tom set off the metal detection wand and we realized it was his GasX!

Once inside we looked for some grub. Nothing very gourmet but let’s just say Tom’s GasX came in handy.

This venue is absolutely beautiful. The surrounding scenery and the views looking toward downtown Denver are unbelievable and the acoustics are unmatched anywhere.

Should have kept the hat on!

The concert was fantastic and Joe Bonamassa is an incredibly talented performer. He played for over two hours without a break.

Now we’re back in Golden and getting ready for tomorrow’s ride to Durango. It will be around 330 miles and the weather is expected to be in the 80s.

No barns today; just the Georgetown Jail.

Fond memories of the area. I believe we ate our way up to Breckenridge and drank our way back down with a cigar along the way!!
