Cal Poly SLOwing Down

After achieving ‘Genius’ level with the NYT Spelling Bee, we got up and did some much needed laundry. With that chore behind us, we jumped on the bike and headed over to our friends’ house.

We were thoroughly spoiled by Bryan and Chrissy. We had a delicious breakfast with them and caught up. Bryan and Tom reminisced about their days at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and their lives between then and now. The topics ranged from all-night study sessions to which Medicare plan they chose.

After breakfast we went to Chrissy’s studio in the town of Camarillo. An old elementary school had been converted into art studios called Studio Channel Islands. We visited a ceramic artist who was giving a class and met the watercolor artist with whom Chrissy shares her studio. It was fun to see the artistic process in action.

Here are some examples of Chrissy’s beautiful works…

We then toured the campus of California State University Channel Islands. The original buildings built in 1937 housed the Camarillo State Mental Hospital. Chrissy’s studio used to be there before moving to the current Ventura Boulevard location and she told us that many people feel the buildings are haunted.

We returned to their house for more warm hospitality and played with our new friend Munchy, their adorable dog.

Sadly, we said goodbye to these dear people and took our short ride back to the hotel to get ready for tomorrow’s ride.

We’ll be heading to Monterey where we will spend a few days with our daughter and son-in-law.

No barn today, but a cute picture of Munchy on his cozy perch.
