No Sur, Please Take Another Route

Knowing that we had many miles of Hwy 101, we got on the road and faced it. There is nothing we despise more than freeway riding.

Once we got to Santa Barbara, we turned inland to the San Marcos Pass. It was foggy and cold and we got pretty damp when we got to the top of the pass.

Soon we dropped down into beautiful vineyards and strawberry fields but the fog lingered.

We got the PCH in Morro Bay and began the workaround route we had planned to bypass the Big Sur closure of Hwy 1.

A few miles in, we saw road closure signs. Ugh.

We turned around and headed back to Morro Bay to look at alternatives. On the positive side, we got a good shot of Morro Rock!

We decided to take Hwy 41 north to Atascadero. Tom was getting hangry and frustrated with our gps that wasn’t cooperating. We took a little detour when trying to find lunch. We ended up stopping in Paso Robles for a delicious lunch and added a few more layers because we were both chilled.

The road turned out to be fantastic and wound through gorgeous fields and hills.

We jumped on Carmel Valley Road for 40-plus miles of winding, bumpy road. Tom’s wrists were taking a beating.

The sun popped out for a while and the scenery was beautiful.

As we neared Hwy 1, the fog returned. June Gloom is early this year. We arrived at the kids’ house at 5:30pm. We unpacked our gear and played with the granddoggers. Feeling tired, we ate dinner and vegged out, not feeling like doing anything else today. Thus, this post is a day late.

Today we will help pack up last minute items, dig up bulbs and be helpful where we can be. And, play with dogs. The movers arrive tomorrow.
