We enjoyed a good night at La Posada. The constant rumble of the trains chugging along was like a lullaby.

Without a way to get hot water for Tom’s artisan coffee, we got dressed and sought out coffee. We walked a few blocks downtown and had a light, delicious breakfast at Sips, right on the corner in Winslow Arizona!

We had a delicious bowl of oatmeal topped with berries and granola and had a double espresso.

And of course we had to get a picture of Cathy leaning on the flatbed Ford on this famous corner on Route 66.

Tom enjoyed looking at this old Ford.

The weather was drizzly but not too cold. We set off around 8:30 and got sprinkled on for the next few hours. It actually felt and smelled good.

We traveled over three mountain passes. What we thought was mist turned out to be smoke from a fire near Phoenix settling into the valley.

Depending upon the elevation, the saguaro dotting the hillsides came and went. They are quintessentially Arizona.

We passed Lake Rosevelt and crossed the bridge near the dam.

We stopped for coffee in Payson at a cute little place off the main drag called Common Grounds. We wouldn’t have found it if it wasn’t for the Garmin Zumo!
Once we ascended the last summit, we dropped down into Tucson and into the heat. It was 98 degrees when we rolled into town.

We arrived at Mary’s in the afternoon around 3pm, hot and sweaty. We did a load of laundry, showered and then headed to visit Mary’s friends John and Connie’s house to pick up Connie’s chili spread for the party tomorrow evening. They are lovely people and it was good to see them again.
Tom has been looking forward to Mexican food so Mary treated us to a fantastic meal at Poco and Mom’s. After dinner we went back to Mary’s and caught up. It’s great to see her again after a two-year separation.
Mary has a list of chores for Tom tomorrow and she and Cathy will be preparing for the cocktail party.
We did not see any barns today and likely not tomorrow either. There is not a lot of farming around here.

great times…
