On the Up and Up

Shortly after we posted yesterday’s post, Cathy bruised not only her ego, but her fingers, arms, butt and back by slipping down the stairs from the loft (think America’s Funniest Home Videos). The stairs are slippery with socks on, apparently. A few Aleve and she slept like a baby.

We slept in and had two cups of artisan coffee today! We then sought out breakfast, having missed the lodge’s breakfast. There is no place where the view is bad here.

After a leisurely brekkie sandwich (we still use that Canadian term) we went to check out the gondola. To our surprise, the gondola was free! We rode all three lengths of it and the views were stunning. You can hop off at each leg and hike or just take in the views.

This is the first leg (that’s Telluride down there):

The second leg:

We got off at Mountain Village and had ice cream.

Then we took the last leg to Mountain Market at the top of the mountain.

Leg three:

We rode back down and Cathy tried to take some video but the tram cars are fully enclosed and we couldn’t eliminate the reflections.

When we returned to Telluride and took a walk along the San Miguel River and saw a beaver pond, a trout pond and more beautiful scenery.

We then made our way to Main Street where we enjoyed a beverage, great people-watching and adorable dog watching. This place is very dog-friendly. The woman at the restaurant told us that we had successively threaded the needle for great weather and good color. Next week’s color will be “eye popping” she said. We’re just happy with the fantastic weather and the color we’ve been privileged to see.

After a rest in our room, we walked back into town for dinner. The place we chose was a disappointment but our bellies were full and we decided to ride the gondola as the sun set.

We got off at the first stop and waited for the sun to set as the almost full moon rose over the town. Not the perfect situation for dark sky viewing but we enjoyed taking in the experience. We even saw a deer and several bats.

In the morning, our room had lost the smell of weed. Tonight when we returned from the Gondola ride, the smell was back. It must be from our neighbors beneath us.

Tomorrow we will head to Torrey where we will spend two nights. Hopefully we will see some starry skies and some good barns. No barns today so we will share this beaver dam in lieu of a barn and a funny sign we saw today.
