Day Four – Deception is Reality

We awoke at the usual time and began our day in the usual way – NYT Spelling Bee and Connections. Once we achieved Genius status, we got ready to hit the road. When we left, it wasn’t very cold so we didn’t wear our liners.

As we rose up to Stevens Pass, Cathy had to don the extra layer.

The mist was beautiful but put a nip in the air.

We stopped in Monroe for coffee and called our friend, Brad, who lives in Arlington. He was in the process of moving his mom from California to the area. He was en route when we called. Fingers were crossed that we’d get to Arlington around the same time!

We did. And, we were able to see their new house, his wife, his mom and his new baby girl, Mackinley. She didn’t like Cathy, but she had the cutest boo boo lip. Tom, of course, won her over.

It was so great to see them and witness how happy they were in their new surroundings.

After our visit, we set off for Anacortes where we would head south to Deception Pass and take the bridge to Whidbey Island. We followed a Porsche club for a while which was great because they did the speed limit, unlike RVs.

The road went through beautiful agricultural areas.

Once over the Deception Pass Bridge, we traveled about 35 miles south to get to Langley.

The area was surprisingly agricultural.

The island honored us by naming some streets after us!

There is a naval air station in Oak Harbor.

Finally, we got to Langley and checked into our inn. This was a great choice! Very luxurious accommodations and the fact that we will be here for two days makes it all the better.

We cleaned up and walked into town for a bottle of wine which we enjoyed while listening to a water lapping against the shore. We went back into town for dinner. This is a cool, artsy town which we explore more thoroughly tomorrow.
