We bid farewell to Florence at 8:30 this morning and set off toward Ashland. We thought we’d be riding down the coast to Coos Bay but the highway was just inland enough not to afford a view of the Pacific. We crossed the Siuslaw River just south of Florence.

The ride was mostly uneventful today. We rose up in elevation as we headed inland.

We passed a few bodies of water that we could not name but they were pretty.

We crossed the Umpqua River over this beautiful bridge.

On the other side of the bridge was the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. Still couldn’t see the ocean but it had to be close!

Yet another beautiful bridge into North Bend.

Then it was farmlands and hillsides. We never did see the Pacific. Tom owes Cathy some coastline!

We stopped in Myrtle Point and had espressos and blueberry pie. Delish!

After more mountainous curvy roads, we stopped in Tricities for lunch.

The mountains soon descended into vineyards and then back into the hills!

Once we got to the Rogue River, it was scorching hot. Over 100 degrees. We stopped to cool down before the last 30 miles into Ashland.

Once in Ashland, we checked in to our hotel and did some laundry. We went to the lobby for wine tasting and then walked into town for dinner. Tomorrow is supposed to be over 100 degrees here again. We will probably take a walk early in the day and then relax before seeing the show tomorrow evening.
So many barns today! Here’s today’s barn pic…
