This year we are planning two trips. One in a few weeks to visit our friends in Camarillo, CA, our daughter & son-in-law in Monterey, CA, and our sister-in-law in Aptos, CA. In the fall we’ll visit our friend in Tucson, AZ. In between the two trips, Tom will be going on a ride with friends to Pikes Peak in Colorado. Of course, we’ll be taking circuitous routes on both trips to take in some National Park sites and avoid straight highway droning.
We’ve outfitted the new bike with all the bells and whistles, and a new set of tires, We’re really happy with the purchase of the BMW. We loved the Yamaha but the BMW is so comfortable.
We hope to visit Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks during our May trip, however, there are still many road closures in place due to road damage from the brutal winter we just had.
Our first day will take us to Sanger where we will stay at a winery/inn. If the roads are closed, we’ll just relax and drink wine… it’s always important to have a back-up plan!
We’ve planned a full day of touring the parks so hopefully the roads will start to open and we’ll be able to see some of the iconic sequoias. We’ll end day two in the small town of Three Rivers.
On day three, we head southwest to Camarillo where Tom’s dear college friend and his wife live. We will spend a full day visiting with them. We haven’t seen them since before the pandemic.
We will then make our way up the California coast to Morro Bay where we will head northeast to Paso Robles. The original plan was to take the Pacific Coast Hwy all the way from Camarillo to Monterey. Mother Nature had a different plan when last winter’s heavy rains washed several parts of CA Hwy 1 into the Pacific near Big Sur. Once in Paso Robles, we’ll begin to head northwest to Monterey.
This will be our last visit to our daughter’s home in Monterey because they are moving due to a job change. I’m sure we will be packing boxes and helping with the logistics of their move. Cathy will most likely drive home from Monterey in one of their three cars which will be stored in Roseville until their new home is ready in Santa Rosa, CA.
We hope to see our sister-in-law on the way home. She lives in Aptos, just south of Santa Cruz. It’s been almost two years since we’ve seen her and have a lot of catching up to do. From there, we’ll head home.
Then, Tom will be getting ready for his July ride to Pike’s Peak. We’re glad to be putting some miles on the bike and we’re looking forward to seeing new sights and visiting old friends!

Sounds like some good riding plans!
